Kansas City Royals: Regular Season Results – MLB June 2011
After having a terrible time in the month of May, the Kansas City Royals were hoping to restore some of their lost pride with some consistent performances in June 2011.
Despite winning their first game of the month against the Los Angeles Angels 2-0, the Royals were unable to find their form throughout the rest of the month to slump further down the wild card standings. In their four match series against Minnesota Twins,
Kansas City Royals failed to live up to the expectations as they were hammered in each game of the series. Twins took complete advantage of their rival’s unforced errors as they made them pay heavily in all four games of the series.
The Royals clinched their second win of the series in first game of the four match series against Toronto Blue Jays. Eric Hosmer put up brilliant show to help his side end their losing streak.
"I just knew Hosmer was going to get a hit," Yost said. "I said there's no way we're not going to win this game in this inning. There would probably be no justice if he didn't get a hit that last inning especially the way Melky drilled a ball to third."
Although the Royals lost their next two games of the series to trail 1-2, they managed to end the series strongly with a decent 3-2 effort in game four. Jeff Francoeur and Luke Hochevar took the Royals past the Blue Jays in a thrilling encounter.
"Maybe this will be good for us, to kind of get out on the road for a while and get away," Francoeur said. "The homestand started out great, went sour and then we finished on a nice, positive note."
The Royals displayed much better baseball in a three game series against their arch rivals the Los Angeles Angles. Hammering the Angles 9-0 in game three of the series, they managed to improve their win-loss record in the regular season to 29-37. Team manager
Ned Yost was delighted with a decent comeback from his side.
However, despite having the momentum on their side, the Royals failed to achieve considerable results in a three game series against the Baltimore Orioles. Danny Duffy earned his first Major League win to give his team-mates something to celebrate.
Although they secured an impressive 7-4 victory in the first match of the series, they failed to do well under pressure as they let the opposition team clinch a 2-1 series win. Ned Yost’s side faced the ultimate humiliation in the series against the St.
Louis Cardinal and Arizona Diamondbacks as they were able to win just one out of six games. The Royals ended the month poorly with another series loss against San Diego Padres.
