Kansas City Royals’ Wil Myers looks to get back to winning ways – MLB News
Royal’s outfielder Wil Myers will be looking to add on a happy conclusion to an overall disappointing summer season.
Many scouts and baseball pundits rated Myers as a top quality prospect that had come out of the farm system. Myers had various injuries which he struggled with throughout the regular season.
That was tough," Myers acknowledged in assessing his .254 average. "I've never struggled like that before. And another thing, I've never dealt with injuries before in high school.”
The Royals moved Myers from catcher to outfield to shorten his time before entering into the Major Leagues. Myers’ team-mate from Wilmington, Salvador Perez arrived forcing the Royals to re-evaluate Myers role in the team.
Myers had a tremendous performance in his first two seasons as he was batting with an average of .324. He managed to get his average to .346 in 58 games at Class A Wilmington during the end of 2010.
"This time last year," general manager Dayton Moore said, "we were debating whether to send him back to the Carolina League for half of a year or to Double-A."
Moore also commented that Jack Maloof, the Minor League hitting coordinator wanted to move Myers to Northwest Arkansas to gain some valuable experience at failure and the dynamics that comes with not being able to perform in challenging situations.
Myers suffered an off the field injury which effectively ruined his season in April. He had managed to bang his left knee as he slipped on a wet floor.
The Royals will be looking to develop their talent from within their own system and give an opportunity for those players that have worked hard and shown some ability from the Minor League.
Myers has the ability and the skill to become a positive contributor to the Royals in April for spring training. It will be interesting to see if the Royals decide to bring Myers into the Major Leagues for next year as the player has developed into a talented
prospect with a lot to offer the club.
