Kansas City Royals’ Wilson Betemit to return soon – MLB News
Kansas City Royals’ third baseman Wilson Betemit is expected to return in action soon after recovering from a right elbow injury. Betemit participated in a work-out session with other team-mates and presented a considerable fitness report.
Wilson suffered from a hyper-extended right elbow which he got while playing in the Winter Session in the Dominican Republic. He reported after his spring training swings that he did not have any pain.
The third baseman had missed his first three spring games for the Royals, but he spoke to reporters regarding his condition and said, "It's good, it's better," Betemit said. "I had 18 throws to second today and 10 to first and it feels much better."
Betemit has to compete for three positions, first, second and third base. The club can also utilise him at outfield if needed because of his multiple abilities. He will be looking to be a part of the roster for the regular season.
Wilson had a tremendous year in 2010. He managed to hit 20 doubles, 43 RBIs, 13 home-runs with a .297 average in 84 games. His performance was phenomenal and the Royals will be hoping that his injured elbow gets better quick. The team will want him to be
back in action for the regular season.
Betemit has an overall batting average of .267 with 176 RBIs and 48 home-runs. He has played two seasons with the New York Yankees and one with the Chicago White Sox.
Although it is not confirmed how long Betemit will be out with his injury, but the Royals are fully aware of the importance that the player needs to fully recover before coming back on the field.
The Royals will be a little disappointed that Betemit is currently injured, as like all other teams, Kansas City want to enter the regular season at full strength. Betemit will also be disappointed to be injured during this crucial time. As the regular season
is getting close, the team will be looking to move their line-up around and bring in some substitutes to try out while Betemit is out of the rotation.
It will be interesting to see how the loss of Betemit impacts the Royals and how long it will take for him to recover from his injury to help the Royals making positive charge in the regular season. The Royals do have one good thing going for them and that
is the fact that it is Spring Training right now and there is still time before the regular season starts. This will allow the team to be able to try out some new players and test out their depth.
