Kansas City Royals annihilated by Los Angeles Angels 6-11 in series finale – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals were annihilated by the Los Angeles Angels 6-11 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in California on Wednesday, July 25 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Los Angeles displayed some top quality hitting skills to give their opponents a run for their money. Youngster Mike Trout put up another solid performance to put the Angels 1-0 ahead in the first inning.
First baseman Kendrys Morales grounded out to first and third baseman Alberto Callaspo doubled to centre to extend Angels’ lead to 3-0. Designated hitter Torii Hunter also made his presence felt, driving in crucial runs for his team.
Catcher Bobby Wilson homered to left-centre in the fourth inning to take the lead beyond Royals’ reach at 8-0. Trout and Hunter hit back-to-back home-runs in the eighth inning to wrap up an impressive Angels’ victory.
For the Royals, Billy Butler hit a two run home-run to left in the fifth inning and Jeff Francoeur connected for a three run shot to left-centre in the eighth inning but the Angels held on to their lead comfortably to win the series.
Angels’ starter Jered Weaver gave up just three hits and two runs with eight strike-outs to pick up his 13th win of the season.
"If you can get two runs off of Weaver and get him out after the fifth inning, you've done a real good job. We did both of those things, but the score was lopsided by then," Royals’ manager Ned Yost said.
"We did exactly what we wanted to do with Weaver. He's a guy who's got great command, never gives in, throws the ball off the corners trying to get you to swing at it, but we did a good job of taking those pitches," He said.
Royals’ starting pitcher Luke Hochevar had one of his career worst outings on Wednesday as he gave up nine hits and eight runs in just three innings to take his ninth loss of the season. Relief pitchers Everett Teaford and Louis Coleman also struggled to
keep the Angels’ hitters quite on the plate.
