Kansas City Royals beat Chicago White 5-2 in Game 2 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals upset the Chicago White Sox with a 5-2 win at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, August in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Second baseman Gordon Beckham provided Chicago with an excellent start, hitting a solo home-run to left centre in the first inning to put his side on the board. After both sides failed to score in the next four innings, it was pretty clear the match was
going to be a low scoring thriller.
Mike Moustakas responded for the Royals with a sacrifice fly hit to right centre to level the score 1-1. However, it was shortstop Tony Abreu, who provided Royals with the momentum with an RBI single to centre in the seventh.
Alex Gordon earned an RBI to centre against Chicago’s relief pitcher Leyson Septimo and Billy Butler connected for a two run home-run in the eighth to lift Kansas City to a much needed victory.
Royals’ starting pitcher Bruce Chen had a decent time on the plate as he gave up just two runs in six plus solid innings to grab his eighth win of the season. Closer Greg Holland tossed up the perfect ninth for his second save of the year.
"His last three or four starts, he comes out and he hasn't established his fastball," Yost said of Chen.
"Obviously, I'm trying to establish my fastball," Chen said. "I'm trying to keep the ball down, but also pitching in and cutting the ball in on the righties was a big plus for me."
"I don't like to lose," Jake Peavy said. "I just hate to lose. I wish I could have done more to help us win, I really do. It stinks when you feel like you have a chance to win and you don't. You get so close."
White Sox had the better of their American League Central Division rivals in series opener and they were hoping to continue their domination in Game 2 but that did not turn out to be the case as Royals lifted their spirits to secure an impressive 5-2 win.
