Kansas City Royals beat Cleveland Indians 6-3 to take the series – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals continued to show improvement in their game play as they beat the American League Central leading Cleveland Indians 6-3 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Wednesday, May 30 in the decisive finale of their
three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Starting pitcher Bruce Chen will be extremely pleased with the way he bounced back after allowing three runs in the second inning. Chen held the Indians scoreless in his next three innings as the Royals regained some sort of confidence.
Johnny Giavotella, Mike Moustakas, Jeff Francoeur and Brayan Pena made the most of available opportunities to help Royals rally from a 3-0 shortfall. Credit must also be given to Alex Gordon and Billy Butler who displayed some
top quality hitting skills to help Kansas City take a crucial 6-3 lead in the eighth. Cleveland’s starter Jeanmar Gomez gave up five runs in five innings to take his fourth loss of the season.
"It's time to forget about the streak," Kansas City manager Ned Yost said. "We've played really good baseball from that point on and we're going to continue to get better."
"We played three good teams," said Gordon. "Baltimore and Cleveland are at the top of their divisions. We're starting to play a little better. This road trip is definitely a positive."
"This was not a good series," Manny Acta said. "The week continues to be rough for us. Pitching sets the tone, and we aren't setting the right one. The day off comes at a perfect time."
Royals, who lost first ten game of this season, finished May with a decent 15-13 record. Kansas City are now 18-14 since they lost twelve straight games in the previous month. The win against the Indians on Wednesday evening gave
them a 5-4 road trip, with four wins in their last six games.
However, Ned Yost and company will have to work out a perfect formula to win games at their home ballpark. They have the worst 5-17 at home in MLB and it will be interesting to see if they turn things in their next series at Kauffman
Stadium.
