Kansas City Royals beat Detroit Tigers 8-3 – MLB News
Kansas City Royals showed great determination and fighting abilities as they secured a comfortable 8-3 win at Comerica Park in Detroit Michigan on Thursday, April 25 in the finale of their two match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball
regular season.
Royals dominated their American League Central Division rivals in almost all aspects of the game. The pitching rotation in particular was extremely dominant as it created all sorts of problems for the Tigers’ batting lineup. Royals were
outclassed in the opener and credit should be given to them for showing great fighting skills in Game 2 to avoid an embarrassing series sweep against Detroit. With their win the Royals improved their record to 11-8 and it will be interesting to see if they
can continue the good work in their upcoming games to consolidate their position at the top of American League Central Division standings table.
Royals’ starting pitcher James Shields led from the front as he allowed just five hits and three runs in eight solid innings. Striking out batters at regular intervals, Shields help the Royals dictate terms against one of the most powerful
batting lineups in Major League Baseball. "I was just trying to make contact," the Kansas City outfielder Alex Gordon said.
"That's a big outfield," Gordon said. "I think there was a storm coming in that kind of blew it out a little bit."
"It developed a little in my last start. Started getting a little bit worse after the fifth, and I started to notice it," Verlander said. "I didn't want to risk it becoming something that I might have to deal with in my next start and
the start after that, and then it turns into a month. This way, it isn't an issue. That's why I got out of there."
Relief pitcher Tim Collins grabbed his first win of the season after tossing up the scoreless and hitless ninth. For the Tigers Phil Coke took his third straight loss of the season after allowing four runs in just over an inning. Start
Justin Verlander allowed just two eight hits and seven solid innings but the night belonged to the Royals who came back from behind to clinch a thrilling win at Comerica Park.
