Kansas City Royals beat Houston Astros 4-2 – MLB News

Kansas City Royals continued to find winning ways as they secured a narrow 4-2 win against the Houston Astros at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Friday, June 7, in the opening game of their three-match series of the
2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Royals overcame the inspired Minnesota Twins in their previous MLB series and they continued the good work on Friday to improve their record to 26-32. A lot of credit should be given to the Royals’ pitching rotation for executing
their game plan to perfection.
Starting pitcher James Shields drilled the Astros’ batting lineup as he allowed just two runs in seven solid innings lay the foundations of an impressive win for his team. Relief pitchers Kelvin Herrera and Greg Holland also had
a great time on the mound as they toss up two perfect innings to help Kansas City hold on to a slim lead.
Holland showed nerves of steel to save his 11th game of the year. For the Astros, Jordan Lyles also made his presence felt as he allowed just six hits and two runs but he was unfortunate to end up on the losing side.
Relief pitcher Wesley Wright gave up the tie breaking single in the eighth to take his second loss of the year.
"It's a lot of fun, man. It was a big win for us," Hosmer said with a smile. "We're starting to turn things around, we're starting a little winning streak and we want to keep it going."
"I feel like the offense is starting to come around a bit," said Royals manager Ned Yost.
"George has done a good job of loosening them up and putting them in a good position to hit," Yost said, "and I think you're starting to see the fruits of his labor here a little bit."
Catcher Salvador homered to left in the fourth inning to help Royals come back from behind to put Royals 2-1 ahead.
Billy Butler doubled to left in the eighth and David Lough earned a double to left centre to ensure the Royals reached home without any trouble.
