Kansas City Royals beat Minnesota Twins 4-1 – MLB news
Kansas City Royals secured a comfortable 4-1 win against the Minnesota Twins at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Wednesday, June 5 in Game 2 of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
“Hopefully this gets us going, gives us a little momentum boost,” Billy Butler said, “and hopefully we can carry this over to tomorrow, a tumble effect -- it snowballs and we start building some confidence.”
Royals dominated their American League Central Division rivals in a game that turned out to be completely one sided. Twins had a great time on the field in the opener as they shutout the Royals to claim an important 1-0 series lead.
With momentum on their side, the Twins had an excellent chance to wrap up a rare series win at Kauffman Stadium but that did not turn out to be the case.
“It would have been nice to get to him early, especially in the first, but we've got to go out there and attack him,” Chris Parmelee said. “We didn't do that tonight.”
Royals used their home conditions to perfection on Wednesday to stay alive in the series and it will be interesting to see if they can stretch their winning streak to get over the 0.50 win percentage mark. Twins, on the other hand, will be looking to take
their momentum into the finale to end the series on a winning note.
“We lost. I gave up three runs, and we lost by three. Earned or not, they're still my runs,” Walter said. “It was one of those days where I was little erratic and had to battle through it.”
Royals’ starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie showed just what he is capable of as he allowed just six hits and one run in six innings to claim his sixth win of the year. Striking out batters at regular intervals, he ensured the Royals were in the driver’s seat.
Relief pitchers Tim Collins, Aaron Crow, Kelvin Herrera and Greg Holland all made useful contributions as they combined to pitch three scoreless innings of relief to help their side hold on to a slim lead.
