Kansas City Royals beat St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 – MLB News
Kansas City Royals showed their true potential by securing a narrow 4-2 win against the red hot St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri on Thursday, May 30, in the finale of their two match
series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
With their win, the Royals improved their record to 22-29 but it will not be wrong to say that they still need to put in a lot of effort to have any chance of making it to the playoffs. Luckily, leaders of American
League Central Division, Detroit Tigers, also suffered three straight defeats against the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Royals are still very much in the hunt. It will be interesting to see if Ned Yost and company can continue the good work in their upcoming
games to get over the 0.5 win percentage mark.
Cardinals, on the other hand, will be disappointed with their effort. After securing a comfortable win in the opener, the Cardinals had a great chance to wrap up another superb home series sweep but that did
not turn out to be the case.
"We talk about this streak, we've been in every game, we've been one hit away, and tonight we got the hit," Royals manager Ned Yost said in a post game interview. "Those are games that can get you turned around.
Hopefully, that will be the case."
"I wasn't sure we were going to get that game in, and to lose in that fashion after coming back in the ninth inning wouldn't have been right," Yost said. "I credit Joe West for hanging in there. I credit their
grounds crew for getting the field playable."
Royals starting pitcher, Jeremy Guthrie, showed nerves of steel under pressure by allowing just eight hits and two runs in six solid innings to lay the foundation of an impressive in for his team. Relief pitcher
Louis Coleman grabbed his first win of the season with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief and closer Greg Holland pitched the perfect ninth to help his side hold on their slim lead.
