Kansas City Royals beaten by Detroit Tigers 0-2 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals lost to the Detroit Tigers 0-2 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday, September 25 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Tigers’ pitching rotation dominated the Royals’ batting line-up on Tuesday afternoon. Starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez led from the front to help his side establish complete control over the contest.
Overall, Sanchez gave up just three hits in nine scoreless innings to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Striking-out ten batters, he showed just what he is capable of.
"Nothing is over, nothing is in," Sanchez said. "We're right there."
"He threw it good. It had a little movement on it, too," Fielder said in a post game interview. "Perfect throw. I just wasn't ready for it."
"Sanchez did a real good job," Chen said. "One of those games where you just have to tip your hat."
Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland will be extremely pleased with what they saw from Sanchez. Surely, he will be expecting similar performances from the likes of Drew Smyly, Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer to ensure Detroit make it to the World Series finals.
Royals’ starter Bruce Chen took his 13th loss of the season after he gave up 11 hits and two runs in just over six innings. Chen will be disappointed with his effort and it will be interesting to see if he can turn things around on his next start.
"We control our own destiny. We've just got to continue to play good baseball," catcher Gerald Laird said. "We don't have to rely on anybody to beat anybody now. It's all on our shoulders."
Relief pitcher Louis Coleman tossed up 1.1 perfect innings but the Tigers did not have any trouble in holding on to their two run lead.
For the Tigers, first baseman Prince Fielder singled to shallow right centre in the first inning and Delmon Young also earned an RBI single. Royals’ batting line-up, on the other hand, will be looking to make the most of available opportunities in Game 2
to keep the series alive.
