Kansas City Royals beaten by New York Yankees 3-8 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals were beaten by New York Yankees 3-8 at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Wednesday, May 23 in the decisive finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Curtis Granderson looked in stunning form and he provided the Yankees with a solid start, hitting a home run in the first inning. Alex Rodriguez also had a decent outing as he homered to left in the first to give the Yankees 3-0 lead.
New York continued to score runs to put the Royals under immense pressure. Starting pitcher Andy Pettitte created all sorts of problems for Kansas City’s batters and it will not be wrong to say that he played a vital role in determining the outcome of the encounter.
"I said it with conviction not because it was going to sound good here in my locker but because I felt it," Rodriguez said. "It's good to back that up."
"I was nervous a little bit, facing a future Hall of Famer to start your career, in Derek Jeter," Royals’ starting pitcher Will Smith said. "That was cool at the same time, but you still got to go out there and make your pitches and get people out."
"It's a club that a lot of times works the count really well and is going to have its share of walks," Yankees manager said.
The offence put up a masterful performance and the Yankees secured a comfortable win to improve their record to 23-21 and they stayed over the .500 win percentage mark. The win was their third in nine games and it will be interesting to see if Joe Girardi and company can continue their good form in their next series against Oakland Athletics.
Royals, on the other hand, will be extremely disappointed with their performance in a game that was important to them in many ways. With a rare series win at the Yankee Stadium, the Royals would have gained much needed confidence but the pitching rotation struggled right from the start of the contest. Ned Yost and his men will have to work extremely hard on the weaker links of their game to change the course of their destiny.
