Kansas City Royals crash to an embarrassing 1-7 loss to Baltimore Orioles – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals crashed to an embarrassing 1-7 loss to Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, August 10 in second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Salvador Perez provided his team with an excellent start as he hit a home-run to right in the second inning but the Royals were unable to capitalise on it. Orioles bounced back strongly in the second as Omar Quintanilla homered to right centre.
Rookie Manny Machado, who had an RBI single on his debut in the previous game, looked in a very confident mood as he connected for a solo home-run to left in the fifth to extend the lead to 3-1.
Nate McLouth had an RBI double to deep left centre and Machado hit his second home-run of the game in the sixth as Buck Showalter and company took complete control of the situation.
"It was great," Machado said with smile on his face. "I've dreamed about that my whole life, about going out there and getting that curtain call, and second game in the big leagues I get it."
Royals’ starting pitcher Luke Hochevar was hit hard by the Orioles. He struggled to handle the pressure and gave up seven hits on seven runs in just over five innings to take his tenth loss of the season.
"That's what it falls on: three mistakes that they didn't miss," said Hochevar, who went just over five innings. "Hitters don't usually miss mistakes at this level."
"These last two games he's played really well. He's hit mistakes, he's hit good pitches," Hochevar said in a post game interview. "He's having some really, really good at-bats. Plays good defense and obviously swinging it well right now."
Royals, who showed great composure in series opener, looked completely out of sorts on Friday and the Orioles took complete advantage of the situation to level the series 1-1.
Their loss damaged win-loss record to 48-64 and it will be exciting to see if they can come up with better tactics in Game 2 to overcome the Orioles.
