Kansas City Royals crush Detroit Tigers 4-2 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals bounced back strongly to floor the Detroit Tigers 4-2 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Tuesday, October 2 in second game of their three match series.
Tigers dominated the Royals in first game of the series and they were expected to dominate the Royals in Game 2 as well. Credit should be given to Kansas City for showing excellent fighting skills under pressure. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera singled to centre
in the third inning to help Tigers avoid an embarrassing shut-out defeat.
Royals’ pitchers, in particular, played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash, creating all sorts of problems for Detroit’ batting line-up.
"You know, he writes the lineup and I do what he wants," Cabrera said. "I play ball. He's the manager, he's the boss. So whatever he wants to do, we're going to do. I play for the manager."
"I pitched to contact and I got the contact, just not the contact I wanted," Fister said. "I have some things to work out in the bullpen in the next few days."
"It'll be real interesting to see what will happen," Royals’ manager Ned Yost said of Cabrera. "I give him a little credit. He was playing today after clinching the championship."
Alcides Escobar homered to left in the first inning in to put Royals on the board. Escobar later added an RBI single to left and Salvador Perez grounded into fielder’s choice to shortstop in the fifth to help Royals take complete control of the situation.
Jeff Francoeur also made his presence felt as he smacked a solo home-run to centre in the eighth inning, helping the Royals take an impassable 4-2 lead.
Starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie looked very confident on the mound on Tuesday evening as he gave up just two runs on five hits in six solid innings to claim his fifth win of the season.
Relief pitchers Francisley Bueno and Kelvin Herrera combined to pitch two shut-out innings to keep Tigers on the defensive. Closer Greg Holland made his 16th save of the season after tossing up a perfect ninth.
