Kansas City Royals crushed by Texas Rangers 4-5 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals were beaten by the Texas Rangers 4-5 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Thursday, September 6 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Both teams displayed some top quality baseball skills in a game that was played on a highly competitive note. Rangers showed just what they are capable of as they held their nerves in a nail biting finish to complete an emphatic 3-1 series victory. Manager
Ron Washington will be extremely happy with his team’s effort in all four games of the series.
Royals’ starting pitcher Luke Hochevar struggled to pitch with control and accuracy as he gave up six hits and four runs in six plus innings. Relief pitcher Greg Holland took the loss after allowing two hits and a run in just one inning of relief.
Jeff Francoeur homered to left centre to put the Royals on the board. Alex Gordon, Sean Perez and Eric Hosmer made useful contributions with the bat as Royals levelled the score 4-4 in the seventh inning. Michael Young delivered the go ahead single in the
extra inning to give Rangers a superb win.
"Knocking in runs leads to wins," said Young. "That's the only stat I care about is racking up wins. I don't care about the numbers that are in the past. Those games are done. They're as much in the past as numbers I put up 10 years ago, they're in the past."
"You can't make mistakes against them," Royals’ manager Ned Yost said. "They do a lot of damage with home runs. They're geared for it. It's the way they are built, for quick strikes.”
Right now, Texas is placed first on the American League West Division standings and it will be interesting to see if they stay at the top of the table to reach the playoffs.
Royals, on the other hand, will be disgusted with the outcome of the series. Despite doing all the right things, they were unable to cross the winning. Surely, Kansas City will be looking to end the season on a bright note to cheer up their fans.
