Kansas City Royals defeat Chicago White Sox 5-3 – MLB Update
Felipe Paulino unleashed his characteristic fastballs to help the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 5-3 at U.S. Cellular Field on Tuesday, July 5.
Once Paulino commenced the second game of the series with his menacing speed of pitches, allowing no run to the White Sox hitters, Mike Moustakas came forward to help the team with a solid offence.
Moustakas hit a sacrifice fly to score the first run for the Royals followed by a triple to deep right by Alcides Escobar against the seemingly straining Jake Peavy that took the score to 3-0 by the end of first inning.
The lead did not apparently seem sufficient enough for the Royals considering the widely acknowledged resilience of the White Sox offence. Paul Konerko proved it right with his homer to left that earned the White Sox their first run.
The third inning turned out to be unexpectedly ugly for the Royals with four hits and two runs that Paulino allowed. Paul Konerko and Carlos Quentin scored respective singles in the third inning to level the score for the White Sox.
However, much as the third inning was eventful, the Royals’ starter did not yield and made advancement. As the game proceeded, Paulino brought about variation to keep in check the otherwise belligerent White Sox offence.
Paulino played the most vital role in the anxiously awaited win for the Royals. "I've worked so hard for this opportunity that Kansas City gave me," Paulino said.
Matt Treanor played his part in the sixth inning for the Royals with a massive hit that earned him and his team two runs, taking the lead to 5-3. Jake Peavy had, by the sixth inning, given up six hits and five runs which dearly cost the White Sox.
Even though Paulino gave up 9 hits, he allowed only three runs in the six innings that he pitched followed by the relief pitcher Louis Coleman who gave up two hits in the two innings and did not allow any runs. The problem with the White Sox is their weakness
in bases.
"I think we struggle with people on base. We need to get big hits. In the American League you need to get big hits in the clutch. If not, you're not going to win many games because the pitching staffs are so good," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said.
Joakim Soria gave up two hits in the ninth but did not allow any runs to earn his team with a 5-3 win over the White Sox, bringing it back in the three-game series. The Royals managed to restrict the White Sox offence and play some decent defence for the
win.
