Kansas City Royals defeat Cincinnati Reds 7-5 – MLB Spring Training
Kansas City Royals produced another outstanding performance as they defeated Cincinnati Reds 7-5 at the Surprise Stadium in Surprise Arizona on Tuesday, March 13 in their Cactus League Clash of the 2012 Major League Spring Training Session.
It was an important game for the Royals considering the fact they had lost five out of ten games earlier this spring. They will be looking to concentrate harder in the upcoming games to gain some sort of momentum going into the regular season.
The Reds, on the other hand, will be very disappointed with the result of the game. It will be fair to say that the Reds put up a solid fight against the Royals. However, they lacked the firepower in several areas of the game, which played a crucial role
in deciding the outcome of the match.
In a display of strength and power, Jeremy Jeffress became the first pitcher to record three digits on radar. The starter pitched with great control and accuracy to create all sorts of problems for Cincinnati’s batters. Pitching two perfect innings and striking
out two batters, he helped the Royals beat the Reds 7-5 in a competitive game. Ned Yost will be very pleased with he has seen from Jeffress, who was sent to the minor league system last season.
"Jeffress jumped out at me pretty good," Royals manager Yost said. "We all know his stuff is extremely electric. He does throw 96 to 100 miles per hour. He has a fantastic breaking ball. Command has been what he's battled in his career to this point. The
last five or six outings in the fall league something clicked for him. He got to a point where his mechanics were working for him and he started banging strikes. He's brought that into spring training. It's been a real pleasant surprise seeing him command
the ball the way that he has."
Royals' left hander Jonathan Sanchez looked a bit out of sorts as he allowed four runs on three hits, conceding a home run from Jay Bruce. He will be looking to bounce back strongly on his next spring appearance.
