Kansas City Royals defeat Cleveland Indians 4-2 to win the series – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals defeated Cleveland Indians 4-2 at the Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Thursday, April 26 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Eric Hosmer displayed some high quality baseballs skills in the first inning and Alex Gordon ran to third to score the first run for the Royals.
"That's why those streaks happen," Royals’ Manager Ned Yost said. "You can't catch a break. You can't find a hole. They're making great plays. You're not getting a call from an umpire. It's always something. Don't ask me what it is. Whatever it is, when it turns you get on the right side of it for a while."
Jeff Francoeur helped his team break the tie in the fifth with a go ahead single. The Royals scored three runs in the fifth to put themselves in the driving seat.
Starting pitcher Luis Mendoza had a great time on the mound as he pitched six solid innings.
"It feels good to get two out of three on the road," Gordon said. "It's a lot more fun winning than losing, especially 12 in a row. We're enjoying it, but I think we came here today with the goal to win again."
The Royals will be very pleased with the way they handled pressure in their series against Cleveland Indians. Showing great temperament, courage and mental strength, the Royals adopted a very aggressive strategy in the final two games of the series.
Indians clinched a nail biter 4-3 in the opener to take 1-0 lead in the series and it seemed as if they will beat the Royals quite convincingly. However, the Royals stuck to their task in the last two games and they surprised their opponents to clinch the series. The Royals have a decent 5-4 record away from the comfort of their home but their performances at their home need some serious attention.
They are on a ten match losing streak at their home and it will be interesting to see if they can turn things around in their future games.
