Kansas City Royals defeat Seattle Mariners 6-5 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals put in a brilliant performance as they defeated Seattle Mariners 6-5 at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City on Friday, April 15.
Things are definitely looking grim for the Mariners who suffered their fifth defeat at the hands of the Royals. Luke Hochevar performed exceptionally as he only let one hit pass him by throughout the duration of seven innings.
It comes as no surprise that Ichiro Suzuki was the only one to have a hit against the talented Hochevar. He started off the game with a double and went towards the third base. Sadly for the Mariners they could not score after Ichiro’s hit and Hochevar was
phenomenal.
Mariners’ Erik Bedard gave up five runs and seven hits in the duration of four and two-third innings. He allowed three walks and managed to strike-out six. Bedard missed the last season because he was recovering from his third shoulder surgery in three years.
In the 13 starts he has had, Bernard has given up six home-runs.
Matt Treanor kicked off the fourth inning with a home-run and gave the Royals a 4-1 lead. They added another run in the fifth inning as Mike Aviles doubled after Francoeur singled. Butler had a single in the sixth inning.
Ichiro had a RBI single and that helped him get a record of 10 multi-hit games, one after the other at Kauffman Stadium.
Rookie Tim Collins, let the Mariners walk in the ninth inning. Joakim Soria came on board and had four saves but he had previously allowed three careless runs which included one by Justin Smoak as the bases were loaded. "No excuses," Soria said. "It was
just a bad outing for me. We got lucky in that one."
The temperature was somewhere in the 30s but that did not bother Hochevar, on the contrary it was quite the opposite. "It was definitely cold out there, but that's something you can't really think about," Hochevar said. “I like pitching in the cold. I really
do. I think in really, really cold weather the pitcher has the upper hand. Growing up in Colorado I'm used to it.”
The manager for the Royals, Ned Yost didn’t quite feel the same way. His hands were freezing and it was ‘bitter cold out there’ according to him.
Kansas City went on to secure a decent 6-5 victory over the Mariners.
