With Bruce Chen tossing pitches that were beyond the Blue Jays’ hitters, he constituted a powerful grip on the game, maintaining the 3-0 lead for the Kansas City Royals throughout the better half of the game.
"I was throwing strikes. I was using all my pitches," Chen said. "I had really good command of my curveball, my cutter and my changeup. Today is one of those days where everything was working in and out and I was changing speeds very well."
Billy Butler homered in the fifth to take the edge to 4-0 while Johnny Giavotella and Salvador Perez scored once again in the inning to make it 6-0 by the end of the inning coupled with the four hits that it witnessed.

Even though Bruce Chen gave up a three-run homer, the team manager was all for allowing him to pitch into the eighth where the team lead remained intact with 6-3, thwarting the Blue Jays attempt to change the balance.
