Kansas City Royals defeated by Seattle Mariners 1-6 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals were defeated by the Seattle Mariners 1-6 at Safeco Stadium in Seattle, Washington on Friday, July 27 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
John Jaso hit a three run home-run to right in the first to provide Seattle with a dream start. Dustin Ackley and Jaso drove in crucial runs in the second to give Mariners complete control of the situation.
First baseman Mike Carp hit his fifth home-run of the season in the sixth inning to improve his average to .186.
For the Royals, Salvador Perez hit a sacrifice fly to right and Billy Butler scored the only run in the second.
"He's executing pitches a lot better," Seattle manager Eric Wedge said of starter Blake Beaven, who pitched into the seventh. "When he's missing, he's missing in the right spots, and I think that goes a long way."
"We just haven't been swinging the bats lately," Yost said in a post game interview. "You can't expect to be successful every night when you are down four, five, or six runs in the first two innings."
Seattle continued to impress the critics as they won for the sixth time in last ten games to improve their record to 45-57. Right now, Mariners are at the bottom of the American League West Division standings table.
Although their chances of making it to the post season are pretty slim, they can certainly make themselves proud by bringing some consistency in their results.
Royals, who were knocked out 1-4 in series opener, did not learn from their mistakes as they crashed to another humiliating defeat on Friday.
Manager Ned Yost will be an extremely worried man these days. Despite having some of the best hitting and pitching talent in their squad, the Royals have not been able to live up to their fans’ expectations.
Kansas City is placed last on the American League Central Division standings table and it will be interesting to see if Yost and company can turn the tables on Mariners in Game 3 to salvage some of their lost pride.
