Kansas City Royals demolish Chicago White Sox 9-1 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals demolished Chicago White Sox 9-1 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Sunday, May 13 in the decisive finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. With their win against the White Sox, Kansas City also improved their record to 13-20.
Paul Konerko looked in terrific form as he singled to left in the third inning to give the Royals 1-0 lead. After both teams failed to score in the next three innings, it seemed the White Sox will hold on to their narrow lead to earn an important series victory.
Johnny Giavotella turned the tables for the Royals in the seventh inning with a double to right. Jeff Francoeur also had a great time on the plate as he hit his first home run of the season, making a significant contribution in Kansas City’s 9-1 win against the White Sox.
Shortstop Alcides Escobar also played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash with his two hits. Royals’ starting pitcher Danny Duffy had to leave the field due to elbow stiffness but despite his departure, the Royals recorded their fourth win in just five games. Luis Mendoza replaced Duffy to pitched five solid innings. He allowed just one run and seven hits with four strikeouts.
"As soon as he said 'It's in my elbow,' I said 'That's it,'" Yost said. "We need to get that checked, see what's going on there, and go from there."
"You can't worry about things like this until you know what it is," Duffy said. "My main concern was letting down my team. These guys are my brothers in here. They did a great job of picking me up."
"Just tried to get that confidence," he said. "I mean the last three appearances, I feel good and more confident, too."
Chicago hammered the Royals 5-0 in the opening game and it seemed Ned Yost and company will face another humiliating series defeat. However, despite having the momentum on their side, the White Sox were unable to find winning ways and the Royals fought bravely to shut out their rivals 5-0 and level series at 1-1.
