Kansas City Royals edge Boston Red Sox 4-3 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals edged Boston Red Sox 4-3 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Wednesday, May 9 in the decisive finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The win will be of great importance for the Royals who have been struggling to find momentum in their game play since the start of the season. After the Red Secured a comfortable 11-5 win in the opening game it seemed the Royals will suffer another series sweep at the hands of an American League team.
However, Ned Yost and his men showed great determination, temperament, desire to win and mental toughness in the final two games to pull off a surprise series win. The Royals are now 11-19 and there are still a large number of games to be played.
If Kansas City can learn their lessons and put up a better show in their upcoming games, they will surely have the opportunity to make it to the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if the Royals can continue to tussle hard in their next series against Chicago White Sox to gain much needed confidence.
Red Sox took another demoralising defeat on Wednesday evening, which damaged their record to 12-18. Bobby Valentine and company should resolve their matters as early as possible to have any chance of making it to the post season.
"You try not to think about it," Bruce Chen said after securing a deserving win. "You try not to let it bother you, but at the end of the day you have no wins and it's almost the middle of May.
"I know I've been pitching well. I didn't worry. I didn't try to do too much. I trust my stuff, my teammates. Today was a huge win. Even though it's in the win column for me, but I feel like the whole team contributed."
Alcides Escobar drove in the winning read and the Royals somehow figured out a way to deal with Jon Lester. Jonathan Broxton displayed some high quality pitching skills as he made his seventh save in eight appearances.
