Kansas City Royals edge Cleveland Indians 7-6 at Kauffman Stadium– MLB Update
Kansas City Royals secured a hard fought 7-6 victory against the Cleveland Indians at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Thursday, August 2 in the final game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Indians will be disappointed with their effort in first two games of the series but credit should be given to the Royals who raised their play considerably to dominate their opponents in almost all areas of the game.
The offence, in particular, made the most of available opportunities on Thursday to help the Royals dictate terms. Alex Gordon had an excellent time on home plate as he homered to right centre in the first inning to put Kansas City on the board.
Right fielder Lorenzo Cain had an RBI single to centre and Eric Hosmer connected for a three run shot in the first to extend Royals’ lead to 5-0. Centre fielder Jarrod Dyson’s RBI single to right capped a six run first inning for the Royals.
"And then go about three hours without scoring a run," Royals’ first baseman Eric Hosmer said.
However, the Indians were also determined to find winning ways. Showing great fighting skills and mental strength, the Indians scored six runs over the next three innings to take the match into an extra inning.
"He needs to pick his game up. We need him to be solid for us. He's one of our veteran pitchers. We need him to be on the attack and after hitters. To put a six-spot on the board, it's a pretty big cushion and not to be able to get out of the third inning,
we need to do better than that," Royals’ Manager Ned Yost said of starting pitcher Bruce Chen.
Carlos Santana, once again, displayed some top quality hitting skills as he belted a two run home-run in the fifth to level the score 6-6.
It was the Royals who eventually came out on top. Alcides Escobar singled to left in the 11th and Hosmer scored to help his team clinch a memorable victory. The Royals will definitely be happy with their performance as they managed to battle it
out and take a decisive victory over the Indians.
