Kansas City Royals edge Texas Rangers 7-6 in series finale – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals rallied for a 7-6 win against the Texas Rangers at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday, August 5 in the finale of their three match series.
Salvador Perez gave the Royals an early 2-0 lead. Adrian Beltre singled to left and Daniel Murphy grounded into fielder’s choice to first in the fourth to level the score 2-2 for the Rangers. Elvis Andrus had another excellent outing as he tripled to deep
right and the Rangers extended their lead 5-2.
Jeff Francoeur homered to right centre in the fourth to bring the Royals back into the contest. Billy Butler had an RBI single to right and Brayan Pena homered to left in the sixth to help Royals come back from behind for 6-5 lead.
However, the Star of the Show was Francoeur who delivered the go ahead run in the extra inning to help Kansas City secure a memorable win. Relief pitcher Greg Holland pitched two scoreless innings to grab his fifth win of the season.
"Ugly, come on. How can you call that game ugly?" Yost said. "It's a beautiful win. Against a team of that caliber and as hard fought as this series was and for us to come up with nothing going into today, it's a beautiful win."
"I didn't give my team a chance to win," Holland said. "They scored some runs and I gave them back. It was pathetic. I'm very upset with myself. I'm supposed to step up and I threw like garbage all day."
After crushing the Royals 5-3 in series opener and 4-2 in Game 2, Texas was looking to secure another impressive series sweep on Sunday. Leading the score 5-2 in the fourth inning, it seemed they will hold off the Royals to complete their triumph at Kauffman
Stadium but the Royals staged an emphatic comeback to avoid the humiliation.
Right now, Royals are sitting right at the bottom of the American League Central Division standings and it will be interesting to see if they can take some confidence from their win on Sunday to gain some sort of momentum.
