Kansas City Royals fall to Chicago White Sox 2-4 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals lost to the Chicago White Sox 2-4 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Monday, August 6 in the opening game of their three match series.
Chicago will be very pleased with their effort in a game that was played on a very spirited note. With their win, the White Sox also managed to keep their first place on the American League Central Division standings table.
The competition at the top of AL Central Division has remained fierce after the All Star Break.
Riding on an impressive five game winning streak, Detroit Tigers have looked in commanding form over the last couple of weeks and it will be interesting to see if the White Sox can stop them from grabbing the top spot on the standings table.
Royals, on the other hand, faced yet another disappointing loss on Monday evening that damaged their record to 45-63. They are sitting at the bottom of AL Central standings and their chances of reaching the playoffs are almost over.
Manager Ned Yost will be expecting the players to show some sort of resistance to end the season with heads high.
Jeff Francoeur made another strong appearance on the plate as he homered to right in the fifth to level the score 1-1. Billy Butler’s home-run to left centre in the seventh put Kansas City 2-1 ahead but the White Sox were not prepared to give up.
Paul Konerko and second baseman Gordon Beckham homered in the seventh and the eighth to lead their side to an incredible bounce back victory.
"I went through a little dead arm period, but it's par for the course," White Sox starter Chris Sale said. "It's all behind us now. We've got a couple months left and we're going to have to make a push and it's not going to be easy."
"We know what's on the line and where we want to go," said Beckham, who had not hit a home run since June 20. "If we're going to get there, everybody's got to step up and pitch in."
Royals’ starting pitcher Luis Mendoza took his eighth loss of the season after giving up four runs on seven hits in just over seven innings.
