Kansas City Royals humiliate Detroit Tigers 10-2 – MLB Update
Luis Mendoza tossed seven tremendous innings on Tuesday, September 20 to lend a 10-2 victory to the Kansas City Royals against the Detroit Tigers at Kauffman Stadium.
Eric Hosmer had five hits in his five at-bats while Mendoza had his first win in over three years.
Mendoza, whose seven pitches saw only six hits, gave up only two runs with a 1.29 ERA to contain the otherwise powerful Detroit Tigers’ offence. This was by far one of the best games he has had since he last appeared in any Major League game in April 2010.
The Kansas City Royals had the most illustrious moment of the game in the fourth inning when the team scored six runs which also included a three-run homer by Eric Hosmer.
Tigers’ starter Brad Penny proved to be extremely expensive for the team as he gave up seven runs in his four innings spell with 10 hits, having an exorbitant 15.75 ERA that cost the team dearly.
Duane Below gave up two runs and a hit with 4.50 ERA while Blake Wood of the Royals pitched the last two innings, allowing only two hits and no run to wrap up the game.
Alex Gordon had a homer in the 1st inning against Brad Penny to lend a lead to the team. Luis Mendoza pitched strong enough innings to keep the Tigers’ hitters at bay while the Royals’ offence sparked in the fourth inning.
Salvador Perez, Alcides Escobar and Melky Cabrera scored a single each while Eric Hosmer went for three-run homers to take the lead to 7-0 for the Royals. Austin Jackson scored the first run for the Tigers while Salvador Perez homered in the fifth to make
it 9-1 for the Royals.
Jeff Francoeur had another single in the eighth to give a comfortable 10-2 lead after Delmon Young scored a single in the seventh. With the 10-2 lead favouring the Kansas City Royals, the team wrapped up the game as Blake Wood pitched a shutout eighth and
ninth to get his first save of the season.
