Kansas City Royals humiliated by Detroit Tigers 1-7 at Comerica Park – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals were humiliated by Detroit Tigers 1-7 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, July 8 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Royals were completely outclassed by the Tigers on Sunday afternoon as they suffered a humiliating series defeat at Comerica Park. After doing all the hard work in June, it seems Ned Yost and company has lost their way. The dip in form can cost them
fourth place on the American League Central Division standings.
Starting pitcher Everett Teaford had his ERA raised to 5.60 after he gave up five runs and seven hits in just over four innings. Although he struck-out five, he never looked comfortable on the mound.
"Left a fastball up to Peralta, he's a good high-ball hitter," Teaford said.
"The amount of power he has, it's awesome. You got to see it today," said Tigers’ starter Max Scherzer who grabbed his eighth win of the season. "A good reliever who's had a pretty good year so far and absolutely took his fastball deep. That's just the type
of talent he has and why he makes our team great."
"He was pretty good. He was 96, good run on his fastball," Kansas City manager Ned Yost said. "He was good. It's the best we've seen him."
Royals’ offence, once again, was the biggest disappointment as they managed to put up just one run on the board. Catcher Salvador Perez homered to right in the third inning to keep his side in the game but apart from him none of the Royals’ hitters could
live to their immense potential and the Tigers secured a comfortable win to complete the sweep.
For the Tigers, Delmon Young homered for the fourth straight game. First baseman Prince Fielder also showed why he was a top selection for the home-run derby as he homered to right in the fifth inning to extend Tigers’ lead 6-1.
Short-stop Jhonny Peralta had one of his season best outings as he homered and drove in three runs to help Detroit establish complete control over the contest. It will be interesting to see how far the Tigers can carry their winning momentum forward at this
crucial stage of the regular season.
