Kansas City Royals humiliated by Detroit Tigers 3-9 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals were hammered by Detroit Tigers 3-9 at the Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday, May 1st in the opening game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Royals made too many unforced errors in a game that proved to be completely one sided. Detroit looked to attack their rivals right from the start. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera, First baseman Prince Fielder and Brennan Boesch displayed some high quality hitting skills to help the Tigers take 5-0 lead in the first inning.
However, the star of the show was Austin Jackson who had four hits to match his career high and the Tigers ended their slump in an emphatic fashion. Rick Porcello also looked quite comfortable on the mound, giving up seven hits and three runs to win his second start of the season.
"I'm not sure what is causing it. I'm just trying to time the ball and put good swings up," Jackson said. "I'm doing my best to get into scoring position and let the guys behind me do their jobs."
"That was the Tigers team that I've been expecting to see," Leyland said. "It won't happen every night, obviously, but tonight we had action, we're playing a good game and everyone is running around the bases. That puts everyone in a good mood."
Ned Yost and company have been struggling to find consistency in their game play since the start of the season. Royals’ loss to the Tigers on Tuesday evening was their 16th of the season and they have managed to win just six games.
"That's two straight terrible games after rainouts," Kansas City manager Ned Yost said.
The biggest problem for the Royals this season has been their inability to win games at their home. With a poor 0-10 record at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City will have to come up with some sort of plan to win games in front of their home crowd. It will be interesting to see if the Royals can put up a better show in their upcoming game against the Tigers to restore some of the lost pride.
