Kansas City Royals humiliated by St. Louis Cardinals 3-6 – MLB News
Kansas City Royals continued their poor run of the season, as they took another embarrassing 3-6 loss against the red hot St. Louis Cardinals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Monday, May 27 in
the opening game of their two match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
With just 21 wins from 48 games, the running season has turned out to be a disaster for the Royals. Manager Ned Yost will be extremely disappointed with the results his team has given so far this year. Royals
finished third on the American League Central Division standings table last year. Following their poor performances, the management was forced to make some expensive moves during the offseason but none of those moves has paid off yet. It will be interesting
to see if Yost and company turn the table on Cardinals in Game 2 to gain some sort of confidence ahead of the All Star Break.
Royals’ starting pitcher James Shields continued to struggle on the mound, as he allowed nine hits and six runs in a low scoring contest to take his sixth loss of the season. Relief pitchers, Tim Collins and
Bruce Chen, showed nerves of steel under pressure and they combined to pitch three scoreless innings of relief but their effort was not enough to save Kansas City from another humiliating defeat.
"Yadier is pretty flexible," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "We like him wherever he hits. Today he did a nice job hitting in the second position."
"It doesn't matter for me," he said. "I've got the same approach: I'm going to be aggressive."
"We're playing good," Molina said. "We've got some good offense. Right now, we're seeing the ball pretty good. We're finding some holes. We're showing the people we've got a pretty good team. Hopefully we can
continue to do that for the rest of the season."
Alex Gordon singled to right in the first inning to put Royals on the board. Gordon scored on a wild pitch in the third and Eric Hosmer earned an RBI single to right in the third to reduce the deficit to 3-4.
