Kansas City Royals humiliated by St. Louis Cardinals 4-11 – MLB Recap
The Kansas City Royals humiliated by last year’s World Series Champions St. Louis Cardinals 4-11 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, June 22 at Kauffman Stadium in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Royals played poorly and fell short by seven runs which eventually proved lethal as they lost with big margin.
"We needed to get our offense off to a good start and get rolling, but that's not the kind of offense you're going to get every time." Cardinals’ manager Mike Matheny said with confidence on his team’s performance.
From their starters to batting lineup, all showed no fighting spirit and could not stop the Cardinals’ offence.
Cardinals’ however, played a balanced game and showed the Royals that why they won the last year’s World Series Championship.
Firstly Joe Kelly explained them this hard fact with his fast and curving pitching which was literally unplayable for the Royals.
He tossed six solid innings and received three runs on nine hits. He also gave only three earned runs and marinated his 3.52 ERA.
"It feels pretty awesome, I didn't have my best stuff, but my teammates were awesome tonight. Good defense, and they really hit the ball." Kelly said
Designated hitter Carlos Beltran also played a key role in the Cardinals’ win as he made two runs on two hits along with four RBIs.
“You know what? It was good to be back, But it was better to put a good couple of swings together and get some runs. It's a good feeling any time you can contribute, This place brings a lot of good memories” Beltran said.
On the other hand, the Royals starter and reliever Vin Mazzaro and Roman Colon played certainly a disastrous game. Both went with total eleven runs which were also proved game ending for the Royals.
Mazzaro stayed only for 1.1 innings as he received seven runs, six hits and seven earned runs while his ERA rose to 5.24.
On the other hand reliever Colon was hit for four runs, eight hits and four earned runs as his ERA rose to 6.75.
