Kansas City Royals lose Dusty Hughes to Minnesota Twins
The Kansas City Royals are not looking back at the experience they have in their roster now. The side that had been in the news recently for grooming some of the best talent on the pitch has scored headlines again, as the American
League Central contenders released one of their developing bullpen members, Dusty Hughes.
The upcoming star was sent to the Minnesota Twins off waivers and he will be joining a relief pitching squad that has the veteran touch to groom him more in the future. The Royals benefitted from the star last season as he gave
them 57 game appearances. However, he won just one and lost four games. He had an economical earning runs average of 3.83. He featured in over 56 innings, striking 34 batters out and walking 24.
Hughes was an 11th round pick for the Royals, back in 2003, and he has been bidding his time well on the clock. Coming up through a good grooming field that featured Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas in the minor league
system, Dusty has it all to guide the Twins to a stunning finish in games that need some unique touches.
"We saw him a lot when he pitched against us, and we've got openings," Twins general manager Bill Smith said. "We lost a lot of bullpen guys this winter, and Dusty Hughes has been durable. It just adds to the competition for those
bullpen spots."
Hughes has a unique record against the Twins as he has made 10 appearances against the club, pitching an earning runs average of 2.03. He now joins the likes of Glen Perkins, Jose Mijares and Scott Diamond. The Twins are gearing
up for talent in the spring training as they are in dire need of bullpen members, before the regular season kicks off in April.
"We added a guy that will come in and compete for one of those bullpen spots," Smith said. "And we'll have some spirited competition."
The Royals had six prospects in the Top 50 list provided by Major League Baseball. Their investment in players and development has made them a good financial venture. Now, it remains to be seen when they manage to do more and provide
fans with silverware.
