Kansas City Royals lose to Boston Red Sox 6-8 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals were beaten by the Boston Red Sox 6-8 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, August 26 in third game of their four match series.
Manager Ned Yost will be very disappointed with his saw from the Royals on Sunday evening. After edging the Red Sox 10-9 in Game 2, the Royals were hoping to continue the good work in Game 3 but that did not turn out to be the case. Boston’s offence put
up a powerful show to put the Royals under immense pressure.
Starting pitcher Will Smith looked completely out of sorts as he gave away too many scoring opportunities. Overall, the right hander gave up nine hits and five runs in just five innings, allowing the Red Sox to take control of the situation.
"I'm trying to field the ball in front of me," Yunel Escobar said in a post game interview. "It's hard for me right now. I try to play hard with my defense. I know I can hit right now. I feel really bad right now, two errors in one game is bad for me."
"That's the mark of a team that battles, those two-out rallies," Royals’ manager Ned Yost said. "I don't know if I'd rather have bases loaded with no outs or bases loaded and two outs. We seem to score more runs.”
Royals’ relief pitchers also struggled to stop the flow of runs. Jeremy Jeffress conceded three hits and two runs in just 0.2 innings of relief. Red Sox’s starter Felix Doubront, on the other hand, showed great throwing qualities to keep Kansas City on the
defensive.
After the Red Sox took an early 2-0 lead, centre-fielder Lorenzo Cain connected for a solo home-run to left in the fourth inning to take the score 4-2. Eric Hosmer hit a sacrifice fly to right and third baseman Tony Abreu singled to centre to reduce Boston’s
lead to 7-6 in the eighth.
However, despite putting up a brilliant fight, the Royals were unable to get over the winning line. It will be interesting to see if they can turn the tables on Red Sox in series finale.
