Kansas City Royals lose to Detroit Tigers 4-5 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals lost to the Detroit Tigers 4-5 in a thrilling encounter at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday, September 26 in second game of their three match series.
Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland will be extremely pleased with his team’s performances in first two games of the series. Surely, he will be expecting his men to keep up their good work to earn a deserving series sweep against their American League Central Division
rivals.
With their win, the Tigers also reclaimed their Number one status on the AL Central Division standings table and it will be exciting to see if they can lift their second straight League title this year.
Tigers’ starting pitcher Rick Porcello gave four runs in just four innings. His counterpart from the Royals, Jeremy Guthrie produced a magical performance as he gave up just four runs in seven sharp innings to keep his side in the contest but the Tigers
were determined to win the game. Relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera took his third loss of the season after he gave up the tie breaking single in the eighth.
"It was hit so high that I had plenty of time to find the fence and get ready," Gordon said. "I thought I might have to climb the wall or at least jump, but at the end, I just had to put my glove up."
"I love my team," Royals’ manager Ned Yost said in a post game interview. "We've played three games here, and we're 0-3, but we're in these games and we're not far from the point where we are going to be consistently winning these teams.”
Andy Dirks gave Tigers the early lead with an RBI single to centre in the second innings. Royals fought back strongly, scoring three runs in the third. Alex Gordon doubled to centre and Billy Butler singled to centre to extend Kansas City’s lead to 3-1.
Jeff Francoeur hit the only home-run for Royals.
For Detroit, Alex Avila and Austin Jackson hit back-to-back home-runs to level the score 4-4. Jhonny Peralta drove in the go ahead run in the eighth.
