Kansas City Royals lose to Los Angeles Angels 4-5 – MLB news
Kansas City Royals continued to show signs of vulnerability as they were beaten by the Los Angeles Angels 4-5 at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City Missouri on Thursday, May 23 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular
season.
Royals will be very disappointed with the fact they have not been able to live up to the potential. Considering the amount of money being spent on the resources, there were great expectations for this team but so far it seems the Royals are going to have
another poor season in the American League Central Division. It will be interesting to see if the Royals can regroup and fight back to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Starting pitcher Ervin Santana had a forgettable time on the mound as he allowed just eight hits and five runs in seven plus innings to take his fourth loss of the season. Santana struck out eight batters but he was far from being consistent on the night
and paid the ultimate price.
Relief pitchers Tim Collins and Louis Coleman showed nerves of steel under pressure as they combined to pitch 1.1 scoreless innings of relief but the night still belonged to the Angels who held on to their slime lead to claim a deserving win.
“I thought we showed a lot of life at the end of the game,” Royals manager Ned Yost said. “We've got a four-game set, and their closer came in and had to throw close to 40 pitches in the first game of the set, and I thought we had a good approach. Any time
you can put the tying run at second base and the winning run at first base in the ninth inning, you've done something, especially when you've been down three.”
After Los Angeles took the early 2-0 lead, Alex Gordon grounded out to second in the fourth inning to put Royals on the board. Mike Moustakas grounded into fielder’s choice to shortstop in the fifth and Salvador Perez earned an RBI singled to centre in the
ninth but the Royals were always behind their opponents.
