Kansas City Royals lose to Minnesota Twins 3-4 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals lost to the Minnesota Twins 3-4 in a thrilling encounter at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Thursday, September 13 in the finale of their three match series.
Salvador Perez singled to centre in the first inning to put his side on the board. Josh Willingham homered to left centre in the first to bring the Twins back into the contest. Willingham continued to put pressure on the Royals as he walked to help his team
claim a crucial 3-2 lead.
Trevor Plouffe homered to left in the ninth to keep the Twins’ hopes alive and Denard Span broke the tie in the tenth with a double to deep right.
Royals’ starting pitcher Luis Mendoza gave up two hits and a run in six solid innings. Relief pitcher Francisley Bueno took the loss after he gave up the go ahead run in the tenth inning. Twins’ starter Liam Hendriks gave up seven hits and three runs in
his five innings.
"I felt better today at the plate. I didn't play yesterday, so (hitting coach Joe) Vavra and I worked a lot in the cage just figuring some things out so I felt comfortable. I felt good all day today. ... It's something I've got to build on," said Plouffe.
"He's been working really hard on his defense and on his steps. There's a lot that goes into the game and he's a little flustered," said manager Ron Gardenhire in a post game interview. "It was a really good play, a really aggressive throw."
Royals’ Manager Ned Yost will be disappointed with the outcome of the game. Royals hammered the Twins 9-1 in series opener and they continued the good work in Game 2 for another comfortable 10-5 win.
Yost and company had an excellent chance to wrap up a rare series sweep at Target Field but Twins had other ideas. Showing great determination and fighting spirit, the Twins managed to get out of the jail. It will be interesting to see if they can take some
confidence from their win against Kansas City to end the series on a bright note.
