Kansas City Royals lose to Oakland Athletics 5-4 – MLB News
Kansas City Royals lost to Oakland Athletics 5-4 at the O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California on Wednesday, April 11 in their regular season encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Royals’ pitcher Jonathan Broxton had a rough time on the field as he suffered his first loss of the season. Jonny Gomes played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game, getting hit by a pitch to win the battle for his team.
"I wasn't very good today, with the walks and everything else. It started out good but I just didn't have it," Broxton said. "One was a sinker and one was a four-seam fastball."
"You can hit me four times if we win," said Jonny Gomes in a post game interview. "We have to write that down and keep it in the back of our minds because 98 mph could end your season."
The win will be of great importance for the Athletics, who had been struggling to find winning momentum since the start of 2012 regular season.
The Athletics made a strong start to the three match series with their arch rivals, emerging victorious in the thrilling opening game 1-0. The Royals fought back brilliantly in the following game to level the series 1-1. Despite having the homer advantage
working in their favour, the Athletics were unable to make the most of available opportunities.
However, the way the Athletics outclassed the Royals in finer details of the game in third and final game will boost their confidence and moral. It will be interesting to see if Bob Melvin and his men can continue their impressive form throughout the season
to give themselves a chance to make it to the playoffs.
Oakland’s last World Series title was recorded in 1989. Although they won the American League West Division title in 2006, they will be looking to lift the World Series trophy this season.
The Royals, on the other hand, will be eager to make a strong come back in their next regular season game. They have a decent 3-3 win-loss record so far and they will be eager to improve that with consistent performances in their upcoming games.
