Kansas City Royals lose to Texas Rangers 4-8 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals were humiliated by the Texas Rangers 4-8 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Monday, September 3 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Royals will be extremely disappointed with the outcome of the game. With home conditions working in their favour, they had an excellent chance to put their opponents under pressure in the series opener. However, the Rangers did what they do best, scoring
runs on a regular basis to establish complete control over the contest.
Geovany Soto put Rangers on the board with a three run home-run to left centre in the second inning. Josh Hamilton kept Kansas City on the defensive as he homered to right centre in the third to extend the lead 4-0.
Adrian Beltre also joined the party with a solo home-run to left in the sixth, giving Texas an impassable 5-0 lead. Nelson Cruz smacked a home-run in the sixth and Michael Young hit one of five Rangers’ home-runs on Monday.
"It's part of the game," Carlos Pena said. "We're trying to go inside. Cruz is a very strong guy and we were trying to not let him extend his arms."
"That was an outstanding sequence," Rangers’ manager Ron Washington said. "Not the fact Cruz got hit, but the fact Michael hit the home run. I don't know what that was about, but undoubtedly it didn't affect us because we put another two runs on the board
and got him out of the game. We was fired up already. All he did was make it shine a little brighter."
Starting pitcher Yu Darvish grabbed his 14th win of the season after he gave up just three hits and three runs in seven effective innings while striking-out six batters. Relief pitcher Mike Adams and Joe Nathan combined to give just a run in two
innings of relief to complete a deserving victory.
Royals’ starting pitcher Bruce Chen, on the other hand, was hit hard in his six way-ward innings. Overall, he allowed six runs and six hits with five strike-outs.
