Kansas City Royals make progress in offseason as plans go well on track
The Winter Meetings are over but the Kansas City Royals are still playing the waiting game on Zack Greinke. The top pitcher in the club has been opted for a trade but General Manager, Dayton Moore, has been looking for good trade assets to come his way.
The demand is too high, by many standards but when one looks at Zack’s ability, the cost seems just. The Royals are looking to add a lot of cover to the side and for a club that has a weak chance of making it to the top tier of the League; every new asset
enriches its chances to do better in 2011.
The winter meetings were flared up by attraction from a lot of teams and the big free agent in the market was none other than Cliff Lee. The top pitcher in the market has been gaining good interest from the teams in both the National League and the American
League. It seems as though a decision concerning his movement will come soon. When that happens, the Royals are said to be the ones to benefit, as Zack Greinke will become the next best option on the market.
However, while there is a development on that side, the Royals have been making additions to the team. The roster has been boosted by the introduction of Jeff Francoeur and Melky Cabrera. They both will play in the outfield and if things get steamy, they
will provide the necessary energy in the side to put the franchise up to the challenge. The roster will be supported by prospects coming from the minor leagues and the General Manager was able to make a note on that.
"We've been able to execute the plan thus far for our offseason," Dayton Moore said. "We needed to improve our outfield and we did that. Yes, we needed to add a starting pitcher, and we're going to give (Everett) Teaford and (Danny) Duffy and (Aaron) Crow
an opportunity for a spot in the rotation as well."
The Royals seem to be on track towards filling in prospects and the stage seems to be set for the next generation to take the stage.
"Nothing we've done is going to cloud the picture with (third baseman) Mike Moustakas when he's ready to come to the big leagues, and we hope to have Mike on the team at some point in time next year," Moore added.
Thus, one has to wonder; do the Royals have a chance to excel in the coming season?
