Kansas City Royals outclass Chicago White Sox 5-1 – MLB Update
The Kansas City Royals handed the Chicago White Sox their seventh consecutive loss at home when they annihilated them 5-1 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Friday, August 12.
The Royals did not allow the White Sox to score a single run till the late ninth inning effort by Omar Vizquel but by then, Kansas had already amassed five runs which included a three-run ninth inning effort.
Bruce Chen was the star for the Royals as he produced six miraculous innings from the mound for just a single hit. He exhibited immense arm power and his wide repertoire of deliveries in his 110 pitches over the six innings. His effort won his seventh game
of the season with just five losses to his thus far.
Zach Stewart could not replicate his opponent on the mound and the starting pitcher for the White Sox ended up giving away seven hits and two runs in his ordinary display over 6.1 innings. His lacklustre performance earned him his second loss for the season
with just a sole win to his credit in this season so far.
However, it was Matt Thornton who could not hold things together for the White Sox in the last inning and leaked three expensive runs to hand the Royals a victory which could have been theirs. The Royals were just two runs ahead of Chicago when play started
in the ninth inning but Melky Cabrera’s three-run home-run effort sealed the night for Kansas. Cabrera hammered the ball 402 feet to the left which allowed Alcides Escobar and Alex Gordon to complete their runs.
Louis Coleman and Greg Holland were faultless with their job as relievers as their three innings combined went for just two hits and one run. This effort awarded Coleman his ninth hold of the season while Holland managed to squeeze in with his second save.
The Royals lead the three-game series 1-0 with the next two games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday respectively. Kansas is still at least 8.5 games behind Chicago in the American League Central division will be interesting to see how the unpredictable White
Sox resurge in this series.
