Kansas City Royals overpower Tampa Bay Rays 8-2 – MLB Update

Kansas City Royals overpowered Tampa Bay Rays 8-2 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Tuesday, June 26 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Hideki Matsui flied out to centre and Carlos Pena scored in the first to put Tampa Bay 1-0 ahead. Brooks Conrad’ solo home-run in the second inning extended Rays’ lead to 2-0 and it seemed they will cruise to a huge win but the Royals regrouped themselves
to stage an emphatic comeback.
The offence, once again, was the high point for them. Alcides Escobar doubled to deep centre in the third and Alex Gordon reached first-base safely on a throwing error by Rays’ short-stop to level the score 2-2.
Yuniesky Betancourt put up another fine power show as he hit his fifth home-run of the season in the third inning and Jeff Francoeur belted a three run home-run to left in the eighth inning to close out the contest.
Starting pitcher Bruce Chen overcame a shaky start to register his seventh win of the season. He will be looking to continue his excellent form throughout this season.
"What the Cardinals did to us those three days is what we're doing to the Rays, just adding on and adding on," Francoeur said. "It's a good time for us to get going."
"I felt really good. I was mixing my pitches," Chen said. "We're not taking anything for granted, but we're feeling good, we're playing good, and now we we've won back-to-back games."
"I did my best to keep us in the game. The ball just didn't bounce our way on offense," Jeremy Hellickson said. "Overall, I think I did play well. I made some mistake pitches, hung a slider. It happens."
Ned Yost and company have up their game considerable over the last couple of weeks. Their win against the Rays on Tuesday evening improved their record to 8-2 and it will be interesting to see if the Royals can put up another masterful performance in the
finale to earn a rare series sweep against Tampa Bay Rays. The Royals are looking good as they have improved their performance and are becoming very competitive. The team will be looking to dominate in the next game of the series.
