Kansas City Royals overpower Toronto Blue Jays 9-6 at Rogers Centre – MLB Update

Kansas City Royals dominated the Toronto Blue Jays 9-6 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Thursday, July 5 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Alcides Escobar looked in fine form as he singled to right in the third inning to break the deadlock and give Kansas City some momentum. Eric Hosmer also made a useful contribution with an RBI single to left in the third inning.
Mike Moustakas hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the third and Hosmer scored to extend Royals’ lead to 5-0. Alex Gordon singled to right in the eighth and Yuniesky Betancourt homered to left-centre in the ninth inning to help the Royals secure a comfortable
victory.
Royals’ starting pitcher Luke Hochevar had a decent outing as he gave up just two runs and four hits in five solid innings before leaving the game due to his ankle injury.
"I hit the bag on the inside and just rolled it in," Hochevar said. "It wouldn't have been bad if it wasn't on the inside. When I was pushing off the rubber it extended it and it was biting me pretty good. It's a good thing we have the All-Star break coming
up and I've got eight days (of rest)."
"He was fine, but I didn't like the look on his face," Royals’ manager Ned Yost said. "When he came in (to the dugout) he lobbied to go back out for the sixth but I wasn't going to."
In some ways it was a huge win for the Royals, who are battling hard to stay within reaching distance of American League Central Division leaders, Chicago White Sox.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the Royals have some of the best hitting and pitching talent in their squad but for some odd reason they have struggled to win games on regular basis throughout this season.
Toronto Blue Jays, on the other hand, paid the ultimate price for their lack of concentration. Right now, the Blue Jays are seven games behind the American League East Division leader, New York Yankees. Luckily for John Farrell and his men, the All Star
Game is coming up, which will allow them to sort their problems out.
