Kansas City Royals’ pitcher Danny Duffy optimistic about 2012 season – MLB News
The Kansas City Royals’ pitcher Danny Duffy hopes he will evolve and improve the defence for the team as the 2012 season approaches. The Royals had prolonged stretches of struggling on defence than maintaining dominance.
But the newly emerged talent, Danny Duffy sought a leading position for the team despite the setbacks. Nonetheless, his efforts might not have produced the kind of results he wanted to see.
Kansas City Royals ended up having a 4.82 ERA when it came to starting pitchers which was ultimately one of the worst records in the American League. Conspicuously missing was the quality start that the Royals’ starters were expected to have.
However, Danny Duffy, the 22-year-old talent, plans to change everything with an extensive off-season. His way of doing this is to set the goals higher. To do this, his physical preparedness will be key while mental strength is the most worthwhile addition.
"I plan on really getting after it this offseason, coming back physically ready to be what we need: an extra No. 2, No. 3," Duffy said. "That's my goal, you've got to set your goals high. I'm going to do everything in my power to come back physically ready,
strong enough to stay consistent in my delivery."
Danny Duffy might not have had a good season this year, but he managed to attract attention by his performance. Having had a 5.64 ERA, just when he was only drafted this year, he had four wins to his credit and lost eight of the 20 games that he appeared
in as a Royals’ pitcher.
"It's definitely nice to just out-stuff people," he said. Duffy certainly desires to evolve as a pitcher as he matures into an experienced pro.
With the advantage and great luck (which he said was a shock) of having appeared in Major League Baseball in the early years, Duffy expects he will soon stand in line of pitchers representing big teams. It will be interesting to see how Duffy improved his
performance during the off-season and what type of impact he will have for the Royals during the 2012 regular season.
