Kansas City Royals prevail 9-7 in a thrilling contest – MLB Spring Training
Kansas City Royals prevailed 9-7 in a thrilling contest against Milwaukee Brewers at the Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday, March 27 in a Cactus League game of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Handling their nerves absolutely brilliantly, the Royals emerged victorious in a nail biting clash on Tuesday to continue their winning streak. The game was played on an extremely competitive note as the momentum shifted one way and the other. The Brewers
put up a great fight to their credit but they were outclassed in some finer details of the game.
Bruce Chen bounced back strongly from his previous spring start, giving up three runs and seven hits in six innings. Chen allowed 10 runs on ten hits on his previous outing, so he will be very satisfied with his performance. Ned Yost was also very pleased
with what he saw from the starter, praising Chen’s efforts in a post game interview.
"It means a lot to me to pitch in that first game. It's the first time in my career," Chen said. "It is a lot of responsibility, but I think I am ready for the challenge. I want to help put us in a position in September to have a good chance to go to the
playoffs."
"He was able to work on different phases of his game. He has three or four different arm slots, but he hadn't incorporated his over-the-top fastball that runs 87-89 miles an hour. He was able to do that today."
The Royals will be delighted after improving their spring win-loss record to 14-11. After making a very shaky start to their Spring Training Campaign, the Royals are finally showing the threat the can pose to other teams in American League West Division.
The Royals haven’t won the World Series title since 1985.
Their last West Division title win was also recorded in the same season. Manager Ned Yost and his men trained extremely hard in pre-spring practice sessions to come up with the best possible hitting and pitching combinations to cheer up their fans this season.
