Kansas City Royals re-sign Bruce Chen – MLB News
The Kansas City Royals’ management has come to a mutual understanding with their talented left handed pitcher Bruce Chen and agreed to a two year extension on his current contract worth $9 million.
Last year, Bruce earned $2 million in base salary alone and this new deal has determined his potential salary worth $4.5 million for 2012 and one $1 million additional in two years.
At the end of the season, Chen did mention in the media that he might not play for the Royals in the next season but timely deal has now ensured his stay with them until 2013.
Royals’ manager Ned Yost stated with great joy regarding giving Chen a further two year contract and mentioned his game a great asset for the Royals.
He said, “Bruce is a solid guy; He’s been our best pitcher the last two years. The guys can really hit. Our defence is good. They’re dying for us to win.”

Later, Royals’ general manager Dayton Moore also appreciated Chens’ talent and acknowledged his game. He said, “Bruce has been our most consistent pitcher over the last two seasons, and we feel he’s going to continue to perform at that level. We certainly have
some (high-) quality depth, but it’s going to be an open competition.”
This latest move of re-signing Bruce Chen certainly will help the Royals approach the 2012 Major League Baseball season will full confidence and conviction to take on any of the top tier teams.
However, Chen, who went 3.77 ERA along with 12-8 (win-loss) record, 97 strike-outs and a 1.30 WHIP has emerged as a new star for the Royals. His contribution in the last regular season was huge. He was among the few Royals’ who stood tall against their several
tough opponents and won games with his excellent pitching.
It will be interesting to see how good this decision was by the Royals but one thing is certain in that retaining Bruce Chen in the 40-man roster has bolstered the starting line-up by adding some much needed depth from this tremendous pitcher.
