Kansas City Royals rout the Minnesota Twins 4-0 – MLB Update
Bruce Chen had an exciting spell of eight solid innings on Tuesday, September 13 to help the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 4-0 at Kauffman Stadium.
Alex Gordon also had a homer to provide an equally strong offence for the Royals in their emphatic win.
Having lost the last game by 4-3, the Royals had a relatively strong line up this time to remain the dominant of two sides in the game. Chen proved to be the most instrumental weapon available to Kansas City with 82 pitches, not allowing any runs to the
cornered rivals.
Carl Pavano of the Minnesota Twins had seven innings pitched, giving up 11 hits and four runs that proved costly for his team.
Mike Moustakas homered to centre in the second inning to provide a solid start to the Royals backed by the strong inning of Bruce Chen. He got good support from the offence and pitched the innings effectively to maintain the lead for the Royals.
Pavano was subject to some more hits in the third when he came on the mound. The third inning proved way too heavy for him as Alex Gordon homered to double the lead for the Royals followed by a single coming off Eric Hosmer’s bat.
Having tripled the lead, the Royals then relied preponderantly on their starter Chen who did not disappoint them. Gordon then had another single in the fourth inning to take the lead to 4-0 for the Royals by the end of the fourth inning.
While Pavano was able to pitch strong innings afterwards, he could not reverse the damage done early. Chen, on the other hand having won 11 starts this season in the 22 games, had eight strike-outs in this game allowing merely two hits and not giving up
any run.
Louis Coleman, tasked to pitch the last, had a shut-out inning to turn the 4-0 lead into an emphatic victory for the Royals.
The Royals put in a brilliant performance as they dominated the game throughout and managed to restrict the Twins’ offence from scoring any runs.
