Kansas City Royals show interest in James Shields – MLB News
Kansas City Royals are heading confidently into 2012 Major League Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings to evaluate their chances to bring some of the impact pitchers who will also help them grow stronger in the coming years with more consistent results.
Royals, with current pitching fire power, know that their needs are far beyond their current resources on the mound.
Their management has talked to a couple of Major League franchises for a potential trade to bring some good pitchers in the rotation.
In exchange, they might send one of their prospects but still this is speculation and Royals have yet to comment officially on this late matter.
"Our rotation is going to better, but we're still looking for the opportunity to improve on what we've done,'' Royals' GM Dayton Moore said recently and explained in detail about the potential future plans which will somehow ensure their new signings.
The one player who is getting attention from the Royals’ management at the moment is Tampa Bay Rays’ starting pitcher James Shields.
Though he has been given a new contract by the Rays but still his trade is possible. He is largely experience Major League individual and has been playing his top game with a positive attitude since his arrival in the league.
“We definitely have a good pitching staff ... We have to put everything together. You can't just pitch and not score runs. You can't just not play defense. You've got to do it all. Over the last couple of years, we've pitched, we've had timely hitting, we've had really good defense. This year, there were some points in the season where we didn't have that. And that's kind of what cost us,” said Shields in an interview as he explained in detail.
Shields last played for the Rays and achieved consistent numbers of 3.52 ERA along with 15-10 win-loss 223 strike-outs and 1.17 WHIP.
James, a six year Major League veteran, is currently considered one of the best starting pitchers in the league, as he possesses consistent 3.89 ERA along with 87-73, 1250 strike-outs and 1.22 WHIP.
