Kansas City Royals sign Billy Butler to four-year extension at $30 million – MLB News
It looks like the Kansas City Royals do not want to lose Billy Butler as they recently signed him to a four-year contract extension worth $30 million.
The reason behind the four-year deal will help the Royals avoid any unnecessary salary issues in the future with Butler. He signed at $12.5 million plus benefits that total $14.5 million. He will receive $5 million in 2011 which includes the $2 million signing
bonus. The salary will then go to $8 million for 2012-14 each season. He also has an option of $12.5 million for 2015.
Butler was overjoyed by the contract extension by the Royals. It looks like the Royals are putting a lot of faith in the player as the Royals are looking for a successful regular season.
“The MLB has a few high quality right handed bats of such caliber, and we are not in mood to lose him.” general manager Dayton Moore said. “We have firm belief in the abilities of the 24 year old.”
Butler is a tremendously talented player for the Royals. They will be hoping for some great things from him when the 2011 regular season starts.
He has a .318 average with 189 hits and 69 walks. His on-base percentage is .388 as he was to receive Royals Player of the Year Award for the second time after 2009. Butler played his first game at the age of 21 for the Royals in May 2007.
In 2010 Butler had 78 RBIs and 15 home-runs. These figures are the reason the Royals extended his contract. The team is desperate for a successful season with the hope of making it into the playoffs. With players like Butler leading the charge, the Royals
might have a good chance of getting far in the regular season.
The team understands the importance of Spring Training which is to begin next month. The Royals will be looking to put in a decent performance and finalise their rotation and line-up as they face some of the top tier teams in the league.
