Kansas City Royals sign Miguel Tejada to a minor league contract – MLB Update
The Kansas City Royals have continued their development on signing some new faces in the Minor League as they landed infielder Miguel Tejada in the roster. Tejada last played for the San Francisco Giants and now will be filling a batting spot for the Royals.
“I believe I can be valuable for Kansas City in different facets,” Tejada told the Associated Press. “They haven't told me what specific role they have in mind for me, but what is important is that I'm healthy and I know that I can help.”
“I’m going to try to help this team and their younger players. I’m so happy because this is what I was aiming for, a chance to get back to the majors,” Tejada told the Associated Press.
Tejada is carrying a career hitting average of .285 along with 304 home runs, 1282 RBIs and .336 OBP. Tejada knows his game well and has always proved that he can carry forward his team’s expectations.
Meanwhile, the Royals not only signed Tejada in this offseason, but they have also signed several other experienced Major Leaguers to Minor League contract including Endy Chavez, Luis Durango, Matt Fields, Ian Gac, Devon Lowery, Xavier Nady, Anthony Ortega, Manny Piña, Max Ramirez, Brian Sanches, Atahualpa Severino, George Sherrill, Willy Taveras, Nick Van Stratten, Dan Wheeler and Brandon Wood.
Endy Chavez last played for the Orioles and did very well on the plate to achieve .203 hitting average along with two homers, 12 RBIs and .236 OBP. He also has good and consistent career numbers of .269 hitting average along with 26 home runs, 229 RBIs and .309 OBP.
Luis Durango last played for the San Diego Padres and carries career .292 hitting average along with five RBIs and .361 OBP.
On the other hand, Major League experts believe that the way Kansas Royals are heading into a new season, it will provide them a better opportunity to play more solid in the next coming seasons. The Royals showed poor results last season, but still they were able to defeat some leading teams and if their roster played together, the outcome will be much higher this time.
