Kansas City Royals sign veteran third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff to Minor-League deal – MLB News
Earlier on Saturday morning, the Kansas City Royals have signed star veteran third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff to a minor league contract in order to build a strong farm system for a potential backup to their big team in Kansas.
Though all the details of late deal was not disclosed in the media but some sources did confirm that this one year contract is worth approximately $1 million excluding incentives.
Later, some inside sources also told the media that Kouzmanoff will also get a chance to play in the Major League but this decision will be entirely on management’s hand. However, if he does make a start for the Royals in the Major League next season, he will get extra bonuses and incentives as well.
Initially, this news was all over on a social media website “Twitter” before any official news agency reported.
@jcrasnick, “The #Royals have agreed on a minor league deal with Kevin Kouzmanoff. It includes an invitation to big league camp, will earn $1M if he makes big league club. His deal includes incentives for plate appearances and can reach $1.3M. Kouzmanoff also has an opt out provision if he's not in the majors by May 1. Looks like he's insurance for Mike Moustakas at 3B.”
Later, Royals’ general manager Dayton Moore also confirmed Kouzmanoff arrival in the Minor League roster. He added with great certainty that Kouzmanoff will also be great player to start a Major League game.
Moore stated, “He’ll certainly come in like everybody else in major-league camp and compete to make our major-league team, but it also gives us depth and versatility at the corner.”
Kouzmanoff, a five year veteran and former Cleveland Indians’ player who has also played in the San Diego Padres along with Oakland Athletics and Colorado Rockies’ roster, certainly possesses some huge baseball talent and will be providing a great help to Royals’ farm system next season. Looking at his last season’s performance when he went .235 at hitting average with seven home runs, 33 RBIs and .284 OBP, experts say he can be vital backup for the Royals’ top three outfielders in the big upcoming event.
